Attending the ceremony of honoring and awarding Vietnam Tourism Award in 2019, there were Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien said that the position of Vietnam Tourism was increasingly confirmed. Vietnam's tourism has a high growth rate, awarded many top honors by prestigious international organizations. The rapid growth of tourists has boosted the total revenue from tourists, contributing effectively to the country's GDP.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam presented the award to the typical human resource training facility and the media unit that has made significant contributions to Vietnam's tourism industry.
In 2018, Vietnam welcomed 15.5 million international visitors, serving 80 million domestic tourists, the total revenue from tourists was estimated at 637,000 billion VND. Direct contribution of the tourism industry to 8.39% of the country's GDP.
In the first 6 months of 2019, Vietnam welcomed over 8.4 million international visitors (up 7.5% over the same period in 2018); serving 45.5 million domestic visitors. The total revenue from tourists reached VND 338,200 billion (up 8.4% compared to the same period in 2018).
The country has more than 2,000 international travel businesses, including nearly 16,000 international guides and over 8,700 domestic guides. The total number of tourist accommodation establishments in the country is 29,000 accommodation establishments with over 590,000 accommodations, including 146 5-star hotels, 280 4-star hotels; 13 5-star tourist apartments; 4 4-star travel apartments.
In particular, tourism products are increasingly diversified, with many high-quality products creating the basis for forming a number of attractive destinations and motivational areas for tourism development of Vietnam. As a core and a driving force of development, businesses increasingly play an active role in the overall development of the industry.
Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien emphasized that the selection of annual tourism titles is important to recognize and praise the contributions and improve the competitiveness of tourism businesses.
